general functions.
an automation controls engineer is responsible for designing control cabinets, developing pneumatic systems, selecting sensors and electrical actuators, developing software, designing user interfaces, ensuring compliance with safety standards by integrating safety equipment, and establishing communication with databases and iiot (industrial internet of things) devices.
specific functions.
contribute to equipment conceptualization by researching and implementing the latest, cost-effective equipment automation technologies.
collaborate with the project manager to review the project scope, create the work breakdown structure (wbs), and establish timelines.
design the overall controls architecture, utilizing knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and communication protocols.
design control cabinets, including specifying component placement, wiring layouts, and enclosure dimensions to accommodate electrical and electronic equipment.
develop pneumatic systems, including designing air supply networks, selecting appropriate actuators/valves, and integrating pneumatic components into overall control systems to ensure efficient and reliable operation select sensors according to application requirements, considering factors such as measurement accuracy, environmental conditions, interface compatibility, and integration with control systems.
select, set up, and tune servo drives and variable frequency drives (vfds), develop control logic in structured text using a test-driven development (tdd) approach and object-oriented programming (oop) paradigm, ensuring robustness, modularity
